$100M: Hearst Acquires UGO.com

July 24, 2007

If anyone needed any proof that we are living through Silicon Alley 2.0, where 1.0 survivalists are finally achieving their rewards, less than a week after mediabistro.com was acquired for $23 million, UGO was acquired by Hearst Interactive Media. Forbes reports:

“On Tuesday morning, Hearst was expected to announce the acquisition of UGO Networks, a collection of Web sites targeting young men interested in video games, sports and pictures of hot girls. UGO claims 11 million unique visitors a month. Terms of the deal, which took two years to come to fruition, were not disclosed. Forbes estimates the acquisition to be in the neighborhood of $100 million.”

Reuters notes that Hearst in acquiring UGO, known for its “babes” quotient, it is going after the male demographic.
