Businesswise — and is there any other perspective? — it was a no-brainer: integrating CBS Sports and Sportsline is the thing to do. Smart.


You know? Sportsline was a fine brand, one that harkens back to the beginnings of the Alley. From The MiamiHerald:

 “CBS, the Fort Lauderdale-based Internet sports media service, has changed its name to

”’The ability to bring unity to the CBS Sports brand across all media — television, online and mobile — is something we believe both audiences and advertisers will appreciate,’ Sean McManus, president of CBS Sports and News, said in a statement.

“The change will be marked by increased on-site/on-air integration with CBS Sports, the company said. is part of CBS Interactive.”

UPDATE: Alex Reithmiller of CBS emailed Webnewser: “We did a lot of careful research behind this move and none of it pointed to a possible drop-off, even in the short term. Not to mention that over the long term we feel this will be very beneficial for our business, especially on the sales side.”
