Just in time for the Fall TV season, but not in time to make their previously announced September launch. Hulu is the playful new name for the NewsCorp-NBC Universal joint venture in video file sharing to compete against YouTube. Hulu will include clips from hit shows from both networks like Saturday Night Live, The Office Friday Night Lights, 24 and The Simpsons.

Since their announcement in March, the site has often been referred to as either ”NewCo,” or ”NewSite.” Executives at Google, YouTube’s parent company, internally called the unnamed venture ”Clown Co.” Hula’s CEO Jason Kilar, writes in his ”Hulu Hello” on the name:

”Why Hulu? Objectively, Hulu is short, easy to spell, easy to pronounce, and rhymes with itself. Subjectively, Hulu strikes us as an inherently fun name, one that captures the spirit of the service we’re building. Our hope is that Hulu will embody our (admittedly ambitious) never-ending mission, which is to help you find and enjoy the world’s premier content when, where and how you want it.”

Also in video file sharing news, earlier this week

The Daily Show announced that video clips of ”Operation Silent Thunder” will be featured on the Yahoo home page as well as on Comedy Central’s network video platform, The Motherload.
